Thank You Ayaz

This one from Ayaz Menon comes as mint Candy for Rahul Dravid and one of the rarest sensible articles from anyone in the print or electronic media. Kudos to Ayaz. Very well said. I loved it.

“The more significant aspect of Dravid’s performance I believe, however, was his splendid catching at slip. The diving effort to get rid off the dangerous Viru Sehwag was breathtaking in its execution, and match-winning in its impact. Quick-silver reflexes, terrific anticipation coupled with great ball sense showed that Dravid’s cricketing instinct was hardly blunted, and that he was not mentally burnt-out

“Dravid’s fielding performance has been quite the opposite. He is already Test cricket’s second highest catcher (176 in 125 games), but importantly, has taken a whopping 16 catches this year in just 15 innings, which would not be possible for somebody who has lost his edge. Indeed, right through the year he has caught so brilliantly that his struggle with the bat must seem a surprise. But in his fitness and his superb catching also lies the hope that his batting woes will pass. For the all-important series against Australia, Dravid has made all the right preparatory moves.”

Very rare for us to find a impartial and factual article on seniors this days when a single cheap dismissal invites write-offs and louder calls to buzz the player off the team.

  1. Hello Buzz,Sorry for the late reply. I have been busy lately.I did not blog at cricket-w. Maybe you have mistaken me for someone else.Dravid’s cathing has been great all year, and hopefully his batting will come good against Australia too.

  2. yes…i agree with you…here’s an impartial article… 😉the writer has tried to divert attention from his batting performances by highlighting his catching abilities…for past <>two years<> his career avg is nothing to highlight about…comparing to his overall career average a drift of around 15-20 runs per innings…that too of a player like dravid indicates something…though i wish that he comes good against ozies and have a perfect farewell…befitting to his stature and the services he rendered relentlessly…

  3. Buzz… there has also been quite a few catches dropped by him this year. But he is right, he is still not a bad slip fielder and it is a hard job standing there.I wish he has a great series with the bat and hangs up in style befitting his character.

  7. True, his slip fielding has been good and he’s perhaps the best fielder in the 30+ gang. I hope what the guy says comes true for Dravid’s sake.

  8. @Buzz, I know you don’t agree on Dravs hanging the boot. Neither do I, but I have my doubts he might. But we shall fight it out till then 😉

  10. Buzz, not to satisfy critics, but I think he has the most sense of the Fab 4. He might leave sooner than some of us would expect – I’m not counting those who are already asking why not.
